The year 2022 is shaping up to be one for the history books in terms of milk pricing. According to the May 2022 National Milk Producers Federation Dairy Market Report, March 2022 recorded the highest-ever U.S. monthly average all-milk price at $25.90/cwt. That beat the previous high, set in September 2014, by $.20/cwt. There have only been four times in history when the monthly all-milk price climbed north of $25.00/cwt., and the other three all were in 2014. Unfortunately, the cost of feed and virtually all other inputs is dulling much of the shine of high milk prices. This may be a factor in springer heifer values remaining relatively unchanged in the past month, with trade remaining light nationwide.
