Signs of Spring in Holstein Springer Values

Maureen Hanson

March 5, 2021

Holstein springer values finally may be starting to gain ground, at least in some parts of the country. Healthy price gains were recorded over the past month in both Jerome, Idaho and Turlock, Calif., where top-quality springers entered the $1,400 neighborhood and beyond. In Wisconsin, on the other hands, springers remained stubbornly low.

Pennsylvania saw a precipitous drop in the past month, putting their prices on par with Wisconsin’s. Those two markets were the only ones reporting Holstein heifer calf sales in the past month, and those values remained well below $50 per head across the board.

For dairy-beef cross calves, it’s a far different story. In New Holland Pennsylvania, most recent sales figures show those crossbred calves – heifers and bulls – consistently fetching $110-$185 per head.
