The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a decline in milk production across major dairy states in March 2024, Brownfield Ag News reported.
According to USDA data, production in the 24 major dairy states amounted to 18.8 billion pounds last month, marking a decrease of nine-tenths of a percent compared to March 2023.
In March, production per cow averaged 2,115 pounds, down by three pounds from the same period last year. Additionally, the number of cattle in these states decreased by 71,000 head compared to the previous year, totalling 8.88 million head. This also represents a decrease of 7,000 cattle from February.
