Mixed signals from milk output and weakening export appetite unsettle international dairy pricing.
Global dairy markets are signaling a disconnect between stable milk production and uneven demand, creating uncertainty for producers and exporters worldwide. According to the Land & Livestock Report, U.S. milk output remains near year-ago levels, but variations across regions reflect shifting supply dynamics that could complicate industry planning for the spring production season.
One major factor behind price pressures is slower import demand from Asia, which has notably weighed on dairy commodity values, especially skim milk powder (SMP). With Asian buyers more cautious and purchasing less than expected, inventories have grown, exerting downward pressure on international markets and squeezing margins for exporters.
