Protein, especially high-quality protein, is the name of the game and the shining star across the entire livestock portfolio. Dairy, beef, pork, and poultry products are all performing well at the retail level with strong sales that are growing year-over-year based on Circana sales data.
What’s interesting is that the data doesn’t show consumers pulling back on beef despite record high prices. In fact, it’s quite the opposite with multiple consecutive months of double-digit year-over-year dollar sales growth and strong volume sales as well.
U.S. fresh beef sales totaled $46.4 billion over the past 52 weeks ending March 29, 2026, according to Circana. That’s up 10.9% year-over-year on a dollar basis and 3.2% higher on a volume basis. Beef makes up over 57% of total fresh meat sales, a category that stands at $81.3 billion and grew 2.7% year-over-year.
