Springer heifer trade currently is light nationwide. Low supply is reported as dairies fine-tune their heifer inventories and strategically create more beef-cross calves. Prices for Holstein springers that are available have seen an upward bump, with Pennsylvania topping the charts this month at a high of $2,000 per head. Holstein heifer calf prices also are on the upswing, perhaps due to demand for spring project calves.
