Recent data reveals that April milk production exceeded initial industry expectations, but a powerful surge in international demand is preventing domestic dairy stocks from becoming overburdened.
According to the latest reports, April milk production grew by roughly 2.8 percent compared to last year, outstripping the 2.1 percent growth estimate originally projected by agricultural insights firm Ever.Ag. Speaking to Mid-West Farm Report, Ryan Yonkman, a vice president at Ever.Ag, notes that while the production numbers are large, they are part of a broader global trend of high output, with European production up 4 percent and New Zealand up 6 percent.
Fortunately for U.S. producers, the domestic “weathered flush,” aided by dry weather on the West Coast, is finding a home overseas. March data highlighted a record-shattering month for U.S. cheese exports, which spiked 30 percent year-over-year.
