Holstein springers ended November with healthy value gains in California and Pennsylvania. Milk production nationwide continues an upward trend, with a fall run of increases for three consecutive months. According to analysis by University of Wisconsin Professor Emeritus Bob Cropp, this production growth is a mixed result of some markets adding more cows, with others achieving more milk per cow, even if their cow numbers are down slightly. In the springer market, prices in Wisconsin remain stubbornly low, as cow numbers there continue to shrink. In October alone, Wisconsin lost 7,000 cows from its state herd inventory. Holstein heifer calf values remain spotty, variable, and relatively low nationwide.
