This year’s survey of dairy producers and industry leaders from coast to coast paints a fairly grim picture of the current state of the U.S. dairy industry. When asked how they would describe the overall mood of dairy producers in their region, responses ranged from scared and nervous to cautiously optimistic. However, dairy producers are the eternal optimists – especially during bad times – and there is plenty that they are excited about.
While there are some regional variations between the challenges and opportunities facing dairy operations, the majority of producers and industry leaders surveyed shared similar observations:
Dairy finances are tight.
Labor issues/policy continue to be one of the greatest challenges and threats facing dairy.
