USDA nudges 2026 milk production forecast higher

The USDA’s monthly World Ag Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report was released Aug. 12.

The milk production forecast is unchanged for 2026 and lowered for 2027. Based on the latest Milk Production report, cow inventories are raised for 2026 and unchanged for 2027. Milk output per cow is reduced slightly for both 2026 and 2027.

• At 238.1 billion pounds, the 2026 milk production estimate was raised from last month’s report and would be up 6.4 billion from 2025’s total of 231.7 billion pounds.
