Key takeaway: Any cowherd intervention plans will not include payments to producers. —Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins
The first notice of USDA’s intention to intervene in rebuilding the nation’s cowherd was buried in a September 22 news release otherwise announcing a New World Screwworm infection 70 miles south of the U.S./Mexico border. The two-sentence statement put ink to earlier signals emanating from Washington D.C. that the federal government wants to ramp up assistance to farmers nationwide and specifically aid in U.S. cowherd expansion.
"In addition, USDA will soon release a significant plan to help rebuild the American cattle supply, incentivizing our great ranchers and driving a full-scale revitalization of the American beef industry. This is only the beginning with many more announcements coming this week as USDA restores American strength, protects food security, and supports America’s ranchers and farmers.”
