Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins confirmed New World screwworm is now in the United States. The case was discovered in a three-week-old calf near La Pryor, Texas.
La Pryor is approximately 90 miles southeast of the Mexico border crossing in Del Rio.
During a Wednesday evening press call, Rollins said this is the only U.S. case being tracked right now. In response to the case, USDA has formed a unified incident command team with the Texas Animal Health Commission. An Animal Health and Inspection Service response team has also been deployed to the area.
