Whatever the measure, 2025 has proven to be an especially consequential year for beef demand. That’s best reflected by the trend in per capita spending; through the first half of the year, spending is on pace to hit an annual mark of $525. That’s 7% better than 2024 and marks the seventh consecutive year of new record spending.

Meanwhile, despite higher retail prices, Certified Angus Beef reported that 7-of-the-top-10 of its retail partners experienced positive growth in 2025 (FY ending Oct 30). Moreover, monthly data from 210 Analytics consistently reveals beef securing the bulk of retail market share (56%) while also claiming the vast majority of new spending (75%+) at the retail meat counter.

Those are favorable indicators of beef’s competitive position in the marketplace. Beef consumers are exhibiting a willingness to trade up for higher quality beef. In other words, consumers are providing clear direction to the beef supply chain and its participants: quality is the difference maker.
