The United States Department of Agriculture reports January dairy cow culling was virtually unchanged from a year ago. Some 298,500 dairy cows were culled through federally inspected plants in January 2020, or just 100 head more than a year ago.

Culling in January was up from December 2019 however, with 930 more cattle being slaughtered per day, or about 7% more. Total slaughter was up 33,000 head in January 2020 over December 2019.
