President Donald Trump is expected to sign the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act (H.R. 649/S. 222), which passed in the House of Representatives on Dec. 15 after making its way through the Senate in November. The Act will upend school restrictions that have been in place since 2012, allowing for whole and 2% milk to be offered to students. Reaction from dairy industry stakeholders was overwhelmingly positive:

“We fully support the passage of this legislation in the Senate because it represents a crucial action for farmers,” Heidi Fischer, president of Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative Board, said. “More importantly, it is a significant step in providing school children with access to wholesome, nutritious milk every day.”

Dennis Rodenbaugh, Dairy Farmers of America president and chief executive officer, announced, "This legislation is a win for children's health and for America's dairy farm families who work tirelessly to produce wholesome, high-quality and delicious milk. We're proud to see whole milk back on school menus, where it belongs."
